GTA 6 File Size: How much storage space console owners will need

Here’s how much storage you will need to clear on your console to download GTA 6.

Ahead of Grand Theft Auto VI’s launch next month, the game’s massive file size has been revealed.

According to PlayStation Game Size, which tracks upcoming releases, fans should expect a substantial 210GB download for GTA 6. While far from confirmed, the account has proven accurate before.

This only applies to the standard edition of the game on PlayStation 5, with no details about the more expensive ultimate edition provided. Also currently unknown is how big the Xbox Series X|S file will be - though it is likely to be similar to the PS5 - or if a day one patch will be required.

As such, fans should make sure to have cleared out storage on their console ahead of GTA 6 launching on Thursday, November 19.

The game having a gigantic file size has been fairly expected among fans. Previously, Read Dead Redemption II was Rockstar’s largest title but GTA 6 is expected to require almost double the amount of storage.

The good news is that fans will have a few days to get the game installed, with preloading for both the digital and the “physical” edition to begin on Thursday, November 12.

What is the GTA 6 file size?

As mentioned, the GTA 6 file size is expected to be around 210GB - at least on PlayStation 5.

We don’t know how big the game will be on Xbox, and there has been no mention at all about a possible PC port.

With that being said, the first edition of the PS5 had around 667GB of usable storage at launch with 1TB available on the Slim and 2TB on the Pro.

When can I preload GTA 6?

Those who have already ordered GTA 6 will be able to preload the game from Thursday, November 12 - one week before its release.

If you have purchased the digital edition, this preload should begin automatically on PS5. The physical version of the game will also be issued on November 12, with the box to contain a code which can be used to begin preloading GTA 6.

Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on Thursday, November 19.
