Legal heavyweight pushes into Scottish city with takeover of historic law firm

“At a time when many firms are scaling back, it’s exciting that we are continuing to invest and grow” – Lindsay Darroch, Gilson Gray

Law firm Gilson Gray has expanded into Perth following the takeover of long-established local practice Wyllie & Henderson.

The acquisition, on undisclosed terms, sees Wyllie & Henderson’s two consultants, Ian Lindsay and Angela Scott, join Gilson Gray alongside eight additional employees. All team members have been retained, ensuring continuity for clients.

With a heritage spanning more than a century, Wyllie & Henderson is firmly rooted in the Perth market and is well known for its expertise in residential and commercial property, wills, powers of attorney and executries. Gilson Gray said its “client-focused approach” closely aligns with the firm’s own ethos, making the acquisition a “natural step” in expanding its full-service offering in the region.

Established in 2014, Gilson Gray has operations in Edinburgh, Glasgow, East Lothian, Dundee, Aberdeen, Forfar, Lincoln and London.

Lindsay Darroch, partner and head of Gilson Gray’s Dundee office, said: “Welcoming Ian, Angela and the Wyllie & Henderson team to Gilson Gray is a significant step for us, and I’ve long respected their reputation and the strength of their relationships in the Perth market.

“As we continue to build our presence across Tayside, their client-focused approach fits naturally with how we work, and together we can deliver an even stronger full-service offering. At a time when many firms are scaling back, it’s exciting that we are continuing to invest and grow, giving clients greater access to expertise and support.”

Ian Lindsay added: “Joining Gilson Gray is an important step for our team and our clients, giving us access to a broader range of services while maintaining the relationships they value. We’re looking forward to playing our part in its continued growth.”

The addition of a Perth office will provide the firm with a stronger foothold in a key regional market where it already supports a number of private and business clients. The firm said it expects to build on this momentum and “explore further growth opportunities” in the area.

As part of this expansion, legal director Sandra Teall has also relocated permanently from Dundee, further strengthening the local offering.
