Best Scottish Beaches For Sea Glass 2026: Here are 11 great places in Scotland to hunt for shiny sea glass

Scotland has some of the best beaches in Britain for sea glass.

Coming in a dazzling array of colours, collecting sea glass has become a popular hobby in the last few years.

The shiny chunks of glass that have been worn down by the movement of the sea - sometimes for over a century - are highly-prized by crafters who fashion them into beautiful jewellery.

The most common colours to find are green, white and brown, but if you’re lucky you might bag some of the rarer reds, blues, pinks and oranges - pretty much every colour of the rainbow.

And then there are the so-called ‘multis’; pieces of sea glass containing two or more colours that are seldom found.

Most of the sea glass you find comes courtesy of less enlightened times, when people would chuck their rubbish - including glassware - straight into the sea.

The best locations are near former glassworks where at the end of the day any excess glass was, once again, just dumped into the sea.

Scotland has a fair number of hotspots when it comes to sea glass.

Here are 11 of the best known. Happy hunting!
