Major Glasgow city centre development site listed for sale for £4 million
A major city centre development site with planning permission for a 276-bedroom hotel has been listed for sale for £4 million.
The Dale House building on West George Street, has been listed for sale for £4 million with planning approval for a 276-bedroom hotel in place
With no interest in developing the site themselves, Arora Group looks set to sell off the development, which it acquired as part of its purchase of Bloc Hotels last July, near Queen Street station. Designed by Norr, subject to further planning consents, the project has scope as either a residential or commercial build.
Gavin Wright, founder of Enterprise Hotels & Hospitality, commented: “In Glasgow, the development site at Dale House is in the heart of the city on West George Street and has consent for 276 rooms in an existing basement, with newly built ground and upper floors.
“The accommodation approved is for a mix of standard hotel rooms, studio apartments, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. A large retail space is also available at the ground and basement levels, extending to 14,109 sq ft, with a further eight storeys above.”

Last year the Herald reported hotel chain owners Bloc Hotels as saying that they were “fully committed” to a £120 million demolition and development of the site near George Square, which was built in 1982 by Royal Bank of Scotland as a cash storage and counting facility. The building had been vacant since 2009 when the bank left the premises. It was sold in 2010 to LGIM Real Assets, a division of Legal & General Investment Management, and an unnamed international hotel chain signed up for an unsuccessful bid to turn it into an aparthotel in 2011.
The hotel chain purchased the building in 2019, with planning permission being granted the following year for a seven-storey hotel with retail space. Further, amended, plans were granted in 2023 for more flexibility as to how the space could be used.
Dale House is being listed alongside a property on Hill Street in Birmingham.
Arora Group and Bloc Hotels have been approached for comment.
