Historic Glasgow sports store where Frank Sinatra and Eminem shopped to close its doors
Greaves Sports, a landmark Glasgow sporting goods store with roots stretching back to the 1930s, is preparing to shut its doors following its acquisition by Frasers Group earlier this year.
Closing down sale notices have been placed in the windows of historic Glasgow retailer Greaves Sports, signalling the end of nearly a century of trading in the city.
While an official public announcement has yet to be made, the signs appeared in recent days at the retailer's flagship premises on Gordon Street.
The development follows the acquisition of the brand by Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group in July 2026.

Greaves Sports traces its origins to the 1930s, when the firm traded under the name Clydesdale Rubber Company and supplied customers with sheepskin coats and Wellington boots. Brothers Jim and Bill Greaves subsequently steered the enterprise towards athletic gear, officially establishing the sporting goods specialist Greaves Sports in 1967.
Across its decades in Glasgow, the shop has welcomed numerous high-profile patrons. Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra famously dropped in during the 1950s to purchase golf clubs, while contemporary stars including Samuel L. Jackson and Eminem have also shopped at the outlet.
