A man was taken to Ninewells Hospital following the attack.

Fife police are appealing after a man was left with serious injuries following a group attack outside a bar in St Andrews on Saturday night.

Officers said at around 11.30pm a man who had been refused entry to the bar on South Street became involved in an “altercation” before allegedly assaulting a member of the door staff.

They said four men who had seen the incident then assaulted the man who was refused entry.

The staff member was not seriously injured.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Inspector Helen Manuel said: “The victim was assaulted by a group of men and has sustained serious injuries.

“We need to trace this group and would ask anyone who was in the South Street area between 11.30pm and midnight on Saturday and who saw what happened, to get in touch.

“Anyone with video footage or information that can help our enquiries should come forward and speak with officers.”

Those with information should contact Police Scotland via 101 and quote incident number 0005 of January 18.
