Nightmare for Scotland World Cup fans as Edinburgh flight bound for Chicago is cancelled amid technical issue
Thousands of Scotland supporters are heading stateside for the men’s national team’s first appearance at a World Cup in 28 years
Scotland fans due to jet off to the USA this morning were left on the tarmac in Edinburgh after a flight was cancelled due to technical issues.
Excited supporters boarded the United Airlines flight UA119 bound for Chicago’s O’Hare Airport on Thursday morning (June 11) ahead of Scotland’s opening World Cup match against Haiti in Boston this weekend.

Passengers initially boarded the flight, which was due to take off at 11.30am but was later delayed until after 1pm.
Passengers were then disembarked from the aircraft and eventually told that the flight had been cancelled altogether due to a technical issue with the plane’s navigation system, according to The Scottish Sun.
The issue has caused a major headache for fans hoping to get to the US ahead of Sunday morning’s match.
Those affected by the cancellation have been compensated and rebooked on the next available departure.
A spokesperson for United Airlines said: “UA119 from Edinburgh to Chicago cancelled today due to a navigation system issue.
“Customers received compensation and reaccommodation on the next available flight.”
