Let’s face it, we all know that, at any World Cup attended by Scotland and Brazil, the competition is basically a two-horse race. Admittedly, it would be a little bit of a surprise if Scotland were to lift the actual trophy, but that’s not the competition we mean. What we’re talking about is “best fans”.

The Tartan Army, widely recognised as the best fans at France ’98, and the Sambistas have a long history of music, dancing, good humour, a general love of live, and, of course, colourful clothes. And when the two get together, well, the resulting parties are impressive, to say the least.

Now, ahead of Scotland-Brazil game on June 24, both sides have a new way of celebrating their friendly relations: Brazil’s first official tartan – designed by six-year-old Indie Menzies, from Largs Primary School, and unveiled at the Scottish Football Museum yesterday. Indie also happens to be a distant relative of Charles Miller, the Scot who introduced the beautiful game to Brazil.

Could this mean a meeting between two Tartan Armies? We may well have to up our game...
