Scots dad in coma after suffering heart attack during Turkish holiday

Several fundraisers have been set up to help cover medical costs.

A Scots dad has fallen into a coma after having a heart attack while on holiday with his fiance.

Peter McMahon was rushed to hospital after going into cardiac arrest during a visit to Turkey earlier this week.

The husband to be was enjoying some winter sun with his soon to be wife Laura McWilliams.

But the couple’s getaway turned into a nightmare after he had to be rushed to the intensive care unit in Antalya.

Without insurance cover in place, the pair are now facing mounting medical costs.

Ms McWilliams said the cost of intensive care alone is £2,000 per night. The concerned finance said this does not include additional medical costs such as dialysis, which has been £1,000 per day.

“The bill is increasing day by day, and whilst the doctors are doing everything they can, I've no idea when he’ll even open his eyes,” she said.

Ms McWilliams has started a GoFundMe page in the hope of raising £60,000 to cover the mounting costs.

“All funds raised will go to Peter, to sustaining his life, to paying all medical costs and anything and everything else possible to get him as well as possible and get him home,” she said.

“Some funds will go to ensuring I remain in Turkey by Peter’s side.”

So far, the fundraising page has raised more than £4,500.

Peter’s daughter, Teigan McMahon, has also set up a separate fundraiser page to help make up the costs with a target of £12,000, of which almost £4,800 has been raised.

Posting on her GoFundMe page, Ms McMahon said: “I can’t stress enough how important every penny counts. This bill is just increasing day by day and unfortunately far beyond anything me or my family can manage alone. I am not the type of person to ask anyone for a penny but I will quite literally beg to save my dad’s life.

“I will do absolutely anything to give my dad the best possible chance. No bill should ever stand between him and the treatment that could save his life. That’s why I am asking and truly begging. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.”
