Flights there from the UK, including Edinburgh, had been halted in 2015 after an aircraft crashed in a Sinai desert shortly after take off from the airport.

Steve Heapy, Jet2’s chief executive, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be giving customers and independent travel agents in Scotland even more choice thanks to the launch of Egypt as a brand-new destination from Edinburgh and Glasgow airports.

“We are incredibly excited about these new destinations, and we know how popular they will be with our customers, based on the demand out there.

“This latest expansion demonstrates the strength of our growing business, and it comes on the back of customers and independent travel agents choosing to travel with us time and time again.”
