WIZZ Air is to introduce a direct service connecting Glasgow and Budapest.

The low-cost airline announced it will operate twice weekly flights to the Hungarian capital from mid June.

It follows a media poll in Hungary which found strong demand for travel to Glasgow.

Wizz Air began operating from the airport in 2013 and currently runs services to the Polish cities of Warsaw, Poznan, Katowice and Gdansk.

It will add flights to Lublin, also in Poland, from September.

Paul White, Glasgow Airport’s business development manager, said: “This is fantastic news for the airport.

“We are continually working to expand our route network and not only will Wizz Air’s new routes further strengthen our connectivity with Europe’s major cities, it has huge potential to generate significant inbound tourism for Glasgow.

“It is important for Glasgow to have regular, direct links with European markets.
