Watch as new chimp Babsie joins the troop at Edinburgh Zoo and settles in to her new surroundings
Edinburgh Zoo has welcomed a new member to its chimpanzee troop.
Babsie, an Eastern chimpanzee, joins the zoo from AAP Animal Advocacy and Protection in the Netherlands, who previously rescued her from a circus when she was young.

The newcomer has already impressed staff at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), the wildlife conservation charity, by settling in well with some of the female chimpanzees in Edinburgh.
Babsie, age 33, arrived at Edinburgh Zoo in November 2025 from AAP Animal Advocacy and Protection, a European welfare organisation and rescue centre based in Almere, Netherlands. Babsie was born in a German circus, after the circus director passed away, AAP saved Babsie from being euthanised.

Introductions to the rest of the chimps continue, gradually and at her own pace. Visitors looking to see Babsie and the rest of the troop can book tickets online and save.
