I changed almost all my bedding to M&S – now my bed feels like a luxury hotel (cloned)

I decided to upgrade almost my entire bed with M&S bedding, from Egyptian cotton sheets to a luxurious all-seasons duvet and pillows. Here's what I thought of the results.
I spend a lot of time in bed, so when I decided it was time to refresh my bedding, I wanted to see whether upgrading almost everything at once would make a noticeable difference.
I chose a selection from M&S, including its Egyptian Cotton 230 Thread Count Flat Sheet and matching Fitted Sheet, its 400 Thread Count Egyptian Cotton Silky Deep Fitted Sheet and matching Flat Sheet, a Luxury Down Alternative 13.5 Tog All Seasons 3-in-1 Duvet and a pair of Medium Cluster Fibre Pillows.
Yes, some of the bedding is more expensive than some of the alternatives you'll find on the high street - more on that below - but I believe this is one area where I think it makes sense to spend a little more if you can. That’s because we spend so much of our lives in bed, and the quality of your sleep can have an impact on how you feel throughout the following day, so it’s important to have the most comfortable sleep environment possible. For me, having bedding that feels comfortable, soft and luxurious is money well spent.
But, was upgrading almost my entire bed to M&S worth the investment?
What I like about this M&S bedding
The result of my M&S bedding refresh has been a much more luxurious-feeling bed. There's something about climbing into fresh, good-quality bedding at the end of the day that makes going to bed feel like more of an occasion, and these M&S pieces have made my bedroom feel more like a high-end hotel.
The biggest thing I've noticed is the quality. The Egyptian cotton sheets have a lovely premium feel, while the 400 thread count sateen pieces have that particularly smooth, silky finish that makes getting into bed feel wonderfully indulgent.
The rich blush pink shades I chose have also made a huge difference to how the bed looks. They have that expensive appearance I associate with an upmarket hotel room, while the different cotton fabrics add plenty of texture and softness. A wide range of other colours are available, including cream, dove and dusty blue.

The duvet has also been a brilliant addition. The Luxury Down Alternative 13.5 Tog All Seasons 3-in-1 Duvet is made up of two duvets that can be used separately or together, so you can adjust the warmth according to the season.
That's particularly useful in the UK, where the temperature can change dramatically throughout the year, or even in some cases week to week or night to night. I don't want to be stuck with one heavyweight duvet in summer or something too lightweight when winter arrives, so being able to adapt it makes much more sense than buying separate duvets for different times of year.

It's also wonderfully soft and cosy without feeling unpleasantly heavy. I've found it really comfortable to sleep under, and the versatility makes the higher price feel more justified.
The pillows have perhaps surprised me most because they're such good value. I chose the medium-support version, which gives me the balance I personally want between softness and support. I don't like a pillow that feel too hard, but I also don't want my head to completely disappear into it. This was just right for me.
The pair have that comfortable middle ground and remind me of the pillows you get in a really good hotel too. The pure cotton cover is soft and breathable, while the filling provides consistent support, and they're machine washable too.
They're also a great example of why you don't necessarily have to spend a fortune to improve your bedding. At £11 per pillow, they're considerably less expensive than some of the premium pillows I've seen, but I think they perform brilliantly. They're also available in a firm version if you prefer more support and less of that sinking sensation.
It goes to show that the price can balance too when you think about your bed overall. Yes, you may spend more on sheets but, in my experience, you don’t have to spend a lot on the pillows. That is particularly helpful if you’ve got budget in mind.

What I don't like about this M&S bedding
There isn't much I dislike about the bedding itself, but there is one thing I wish M&S made clearer.
I ordered two different sets of sheets and I found that colour can vary quite significantly between the different bedding ranges. I chose two products that were both called blush pink, yet they are completely different shades. I cannot comment if this is the same with other colours, but it something to think about.
It caught me out slightly because, when you're trying to create a coordinated bedroom, you naturally assume that choosing the same named colour across different products will result in a matching set. If you're planning to combine different M&S bedding collections, I'd definitely recommend checking the product images carefully before buying.
The good news is that M&S currently has a standard 28-day returns policy on bedding, while sale items have a 14-day window, although it does need to meet the applicable original-condition and hygiene-seal requirements.
That means it's worth checking the colour as soon as it arrives, before washing or using it, if you're concerned about whether it will work with the rest of your bedroom.

My Verdict
Changing almost my entire bed to M&S bedding has made a bigger difference than I expected. From the smooth Egyptian cotton sheets to the soft verstatile duvet and supportive pillows, everything feels more luxurious and comfortable. I really look forward to going to bed now, and my sleep has improved because I couldn’t be more comfortable.
The pillows have been a fantastic buy, proving that you can get that high-end hotel feel without spending a fortune on every individual item.
The sheets and duvet are undoubtedly an investment, but I think bedding is one of those areas where paying for quality makes sense as it is something you'll appreciate every single night.
