Christmas in Glasgow: Brand-new lighting trail to illuminate Glasgow city centre this winter
Three Glasgow streets will be transformed into a ‘festive wonderland’.
A brand-new Christmas lighting trail will illuminate Glasgow city centre from next week.
Sauchiehall, Buchanan and Argyle streets will be transformed into a festive wonderland from November 20 when the lights trail goes live.
Work remains ongoing at George Square as part of the spectacles, which will coincide with Glasgow celebrating the city’s 850th anniversary.
Festive street performers will bring the city centre to life on November 20 from 4.30pm. The lighting trail will be switched on at 6pm. Every other evening through to January 3, the trail will be illuminated from 4pm.
Glasgow’s Lord Provost Jacqueline McLaren said: “Turning on Glasgow’s Christmas lights is one of the highlights of the year, and this year it’s even more exciting as we unveil a brand-new trail that will bathe the centre in festive light.

“As Glasgow celebrates its 850th anniversary, welcoming families and friends into the city centre to enjoy this special moment makes it even more memorable.”
Five light installations have been made by talented local artists for the new trail.
Artists Ellie Mills and Alice Brown invited local communities to share stories of what Christmas means to them. These festive stories have been translated into Bright City, a series of animations projected onto Sauchiehall Street.
Meanwhile, at Sandaig Primary, Christmas came early when the school won a competition to see their design created in light.

Roza, 11, will see her dazzling display, complete with Christmas trees and snowmen, spread festive cheer as it illuminates Sauchiehall Street.
Glasgow Royal Concert Hall will stop passers-by in their tracks with Constellations, a display by artist Domme Ewan that transforms the iconic façade into a living night sky.
Jamie Wardrop’s Let Glasgow Flourish will be projected inside five windows of the historic Buck’s Head Building on Argyle Street. This animated visual sequence has colourful birds and festive evergreens of ivy, pine, and holly.
And, at the Mercat Building on High Street, Kate Robinson’s Starry Messengers of Joy will delight visitors with a host of angelic figures made of light. The display features hand-drawn, diverse spirits celebrating the elements of air, fire, earth and water.
