They capture some of the country’s proudest moments - along with some of the most surreal - during 1976.
Scotland captain Archie Gemmill is seen lifting the Home International Trophy after victory over England, Elton John fans are pictured queuing around the block to see the Rocket Man singer at the peak of his fame, and 12-year-old Scottish singer Lena Zavaroni is shown signing records for excited fans at John Menzies.
Some of the stranger sights include an elephant stomping around the library, passersby scooping fish from the street after a lorry spilt its load, and workers at a soon-to-open waxwork museum sharing their lunch with the bodiless heads of some of history’s most famous figures.
Elsewhere, a famous landmark is reduced to rubble, as Bonnybridge Power Station is demolished; a young Prince Charles takes charge of the minesweeper HMS Bronington, his first command; and crowds enjoy an Easter day out at the Links market funfair in Kirkcaldy, Fife.
This retro photo gallery also captures the madcap trials for the hit 70s show It’s A Knockout, a sword-balancing trick captivating crowds in Glasgow, and firefighters battling a blaze on a famous Edinburgh street, among other scenes.
Do these photos bring back any 70s memories for you?
