Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Cameron Smith all staying put on LIV Golf

Trio not ready to join Brooks Koepka in taking up PGA Tour’s Returning Member Programme offer

Brooks Koepka looks set to be the only LIV Golf big gun heading back to the PGA Tour in 2026 after Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Cameron Smith all insisted they won’t be making the same move at the moment.

Five-time major Koepka is gearing up for his return to the US circuit in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines at the end of this month after ending his stint with LIV Golf and having the door opened for him by the PGA Tour through a Returning Member Programme.

The same opportunity has been made available to DeChambeau, Rahm and Smith on the strength of them all being major winners since 2022, but, speaking at a 2026 LIV Golf launch event on Tuesday, the trio insisted they are staying with the breakaway circuit for the time being.

“It was a way back, I guess,” said DeChambeau in a brief interview with Sports Illustrated. “It’s not surprising. I don’t get shocked by much anymore. I know both sides too well, but what I can say is that it is interesting and we’ll see how it all plays out.”

Smith, who signed for the Saudi-backed breakaway circuit soon after winning the 150th Open at St Andrews, captions the all-Australian Rippers team. “I’m here to stay. I’m here to support LIV,” he insisted.

Jon Rahm ‘not planning on going anywhere’

Two-time major winner Rahm, who captained his Legion XIII to the LIV Golf team title last year, also spoke at a media session in Florida.

“I had heard rumors for quite a few weeks, some of them going back to last year already,” said the Spaniard. “It wasn’t a surprise whatsoever. I’m not planning on going anywhere.”

The PGA Tour’s Returning Member Programme Offer to the LIV Golf big guns is only open until 2 February.
