Cameron Stewart – a childhood Coleraine fan – has signed with The Showgrounds club.

The 21-year-old defender was previously with Ipswich Town and also counts time at Cove Rangers and in the Irish League for Crusaders on his CV.

A Coleraine statement read: “Cameron, who had spent time training with the Ipswich first-team, is known for being a centre-back who is comfortable on the ball and excellent game-reading ability.

"His addition to the Coleraine FC line-up is seen as a significant boost to the club's defensive options.”

Stewart highlighted his family connections to Coleraine.

“My dad’s side of the family are all massive fans, so growing up we went to all the games,” said Stewart. “So it means a bit more to me now being a player.”

Stewart’s arrival follows on from the club securing Matthew Shevlin on a fresh contract extension.

“Cameron ticks all the boxes, we have a profile of player we are looking to try and recruit, he’s got really good potential having had lots of minutes at a good level in Scotland last year,” said Coleraine head coach Dean Shiels. “We are expecting him to come in and really develop under the full-time model and expecting big things from him.”
