Glen Golf Club members reject Ancient Golf Links Company's management proposal

‘Focus will be on developing and delivering the club’s own plans for the next five years and beyond’

Members of Glen Golf Club have rejected a proposal that would have seen the Ancient Links Golf Company (TALGC) take over the running and management of the North Berwick club for 125 years.

At a Special General Meeting on Wednesday at North Berwick High School, members were asked to decide whether the club should proceed to detailed contractual negotiations with TALGC over its proposed long-term takeover.

With a 69 per cent turnout, 273 members votes against continuing with the TALGC proposal while 221 votes were in favour and four members abstained.

A spokesman for the ‘Save the Glen’ group, which had argued against the proposal, said, “With the vote now concluded, the focus will be on developing and delivering the club’s own plans for the next five years and beyond.”

Asked about the meeting by The Scotsman to provide a statement, the club said it would not be issuing any public statements.

The Ancient Links Golf Company has already taken over the running of both Scotscraig and Forfar, with hopes high of Montrose Golf Links being added to its portfolio.
