Golf and rugby combine on two fronts at Borders venue
Melrose Sevens Golf Day teed up as Greig Laidlaw becomes official ambassador for Schloss Roxburghe
Golf and rugby are combining for a new event in the Borders next month at the venue where a former Scotland rugby captain has become an official ambassador.
The inaugural Melrose Sevens Golf Day is being held on Friday, 22 May during the iconic annual rugby tournament and team entry to the Golf Day includes general admission tickets to the Saturday 7s.
Spaces in the event are still available at the cost of £400 per team and can be secured by emailing [email protected].

"We’re excited to welcome players to the inaugural Melrose Sevens Golf Day,” said Ross Ovens, head of golf at Schloss Roxburghe. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to enjoy championship golf in a stunning setting, experience the enhancements we’ve made to the course and resort, and be part of an iconic weekend of sport in the Scottish Borders.”
Concurring, Melrose Rugby general manager Doug Crawford said: “It’s brilliant to have Schloss Roxburghe as an accommodation partner for the Melrose Sevens this year. We look forward to working closely with them to offer rugby fans and visitors travelling to the Scottish Borders the best experience possible, as they enjoy their weekend at the Home of Sevens.”
Kelso venue hailed as ‘incredible’
Meanwhile, former Scotland rugby captain Greig Laidlaw is now an official ambassador for the Schloss Roxburghe, where the Scottish Challenge is being held for the second year in a row after Daniel Young delivered a home triumph last summer.
“It’s an incredible venue and I’m looking forward to working together to promote the resort,” said Laidlaw, a proud Borders man who made 76 appearances for Scotland.
