'I'd play everywhere' - Patrick Reed opens up on possible PGA Tour return

Former Masters champion would consider following Brooks Koepka back to US circuit

Former Masters champion Patrick Reed is ready to consider a return to the PGA Tour if he is handed the same terms as Brooks Koepka.

Reed opened up on the potential of him joining Koepka back on the US circuit in the Middle East, where he is teeing up on the DP World Tour this week in the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.

Koepka’s return coincided with the PGA Tour offering the same opportunity as Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Cameron Smith on the strength of them also winning majors since 2022.

Reed claimed his major victory in 2018, meaning he was overlooked along with Dustin Johnson, who won the 2020 Masters, and 2021 PGA champion Phil Mickelson by the tour committee.

“It’s not really a decision for me at the moment,” declared Reed, who is being joined in the Rolex Series event at Emirates Golf Club by Four Aces team captain Dustin Johnson. “I mean, that was for players [who won majors from] ‘22 and on. [But] I definitely would have to think about it, if that number was [taken] down to 2018.”

Asked if he would like to play again on his home circuit, the American replied: “Of course. I mean, if it's up to me, I'd play everywhere. I'm already playing on three tours [LIV, the DP World Tour and the Asian Tour], so why not add one more?

“I always enjoyed my time out there on the PGA Tour. I mean, let's be honest, it's the best tour in the world. Look at what they've done in golf. You know, I could see myself playing there at some point again.

‘Fines won’t stop me playing on DP World Tour’

"I mean… you just never know. Everything's so fluid, everything's discombobulated in golf. But at the end of the day, whatever my name's called, I'm going to show up and play and, you know, try to play the best and not only represent myself, but my family, and also whatever my team [is}.”

Reed has played a lot of golf on the DP World Tour since bursting on to the scene in the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, which led to him earning the nickname ‘Captain America’.

“Yeah, starting this year, the fines will go on the players, not on LIV," he admitted of a situation that could cost him £1 million per year. "I hope there is a resolution, I mean, especially for a guy who, you know, has always come over, always supported this tour.

“I've played in everything from the big events to the small events. I haven't changed the way I've come over and played since I got my card over here. And I'm still planning on coming over and supporting this tour. I mean, this tour is unbelievable and I'm not gonna allow a couple fines to kind of get in my way."
