In-form Scottish golfer explains surprise Dunhill Links absence
Scot sitting out 25th anniversary edition of DP World Tour event as a precautionary measure
In-form Ewen Ferguson has explained his surprise absence in this week’s $5 million Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on home soil.
The 30-year-old sits 42nd in the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai, having finished in the top ten in the Amgen Irish Open three weeks ago before tying for 14th in the FedEx Open de France on Sunday.
In between, the three-time winner also made the cut in the BMW PGA Championship, a $9 million Rolex Series event, at Wentworth.

On the back of his recent run, Ferguson is on course to make the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, which will feature the top 50 on the points list.
However, he is missing out on a golden opportunity to improve his position in the standings due to being advised that it would be best for him to skip this week’s event at Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and St Andrews.
“My neck was flaring up a bit the last couple of weeks and gets a lot worse in the cold,” Ferguson, who is the second highest-placed Scot in the Race to Dubai behind Calum Hill, told The Scotsman.
“My physio said I should probably take this week off. So I’m getting an MRI done etc to make sure everything is okay and hopefully I’ll be strong for the rest of the season.”
Richie Ramsay, a Dunhill Links veteran, is also sitting out the 25th anniversary edition due to an ongoing nerve issue in his neck.
