TT 2024: Opening Supertwin race called off due to weather conditions as Michael Dunlop laps at 128mph on Superstock machine

Several leading riders who participated in the solo warm-up lap said it was unsafe for racing, with numerous damp patches remaining following heavy rain showers in the morning.
Michael Dunlop went out on his MD Racing Honda Superstock machine and lapped at 128mph despite the less than ideal conditions.

Hide AdTuesday’s schedule had been revised because of the weather, with the opening RL360 Superstock race postponed and the Metzeler Supertwin race moved from an initial start time of 2pm to 7:40pm.
Davey Todd – one of the top contenders who is due to the ride the Dafabet Kawasaki in the Supertwin class – felt the right decision was taken by the organisers.
“There’s a whole lot of damp spots out there,” said the Saltburn man.
“Personally I think it’s a little bit on the edge of whether we should run or not.

Hide Ad“Doing the warm-up lap in those conditions is one thing, going full bore in the race is another thing.
“The thing is that around here the conditions can change so much you just don’t know what to expect.
“If you’re setting off down Bray Hill on lap one of the race you have to push otherwise you’re not going to win and you’re risking a hell of a lot right now.
“I’m not too happy about going out there.”
With a full day’s programme lost, a revised schedule has been put in place for Wednesday with the Metzeler Supertwin race set for 11:45 BST and the RL360 Superstock race – both over three laps – at 14:00 BST.

Hide AdThursday’s contingency day is now also likely to be utilised.
Three races have taken place so far, with Dunlop equalling his uncle Joey’s record of 26 TT wins in Saturday’s Supersport opener, while Peter Hickman drew level with Mike Hailwood after winning the RST Superbike race on Sunday.
Manx brothers Ryan and Callum Crowe clinched their first TT success in the opening Sidecar event on Saturday.
