New North-East partnership hailed as 'good for golf'

Fraserburgh facilities Rosehearty Golf Club and Dunes Golf Centre in link up

A new partnership between a golf club and golf centre in the North-East of Scotland has been hailed as being “good for golf”.

The link up between Rosehearty Golf Club and Dunes Golf Centre, both of wich are in Fraserburgh, was announced in a post on social media.

Posted on the Dunes Golf Centre page on Facebook, it read: “We’re delighted to share that Rosehearty Golf Club have officially signed up as a Partner Club with Dunes Golf Centre. We met with the committee and it’s been brilliant to see how positively they’ve embraced the idea.

“A huge thank you to Denise Taylor and the lady captain, Wendy Smith, for their support in getting this moving.”

Rosehearty Golf Club was formed in 1883 and is a nine-hole course which has been described as a “true hidden gem of links golf”. Dunes Golf Centre, meanwhile, is located at Philorth Links, close to Fraserburgh Golf Club and is run by PGA professional Peter Myers.

Explaining what a new ‘Partner Club’ programme is about, the post added: “It’s a simple, practical partnership designed to grow golf locally. We want to help more juniors, beginners and returning golfers move confidently from the driving range onto our local courses, while also giving partner clubs extra visibility through Dunes’ marketing and social media channels.

“In short, we’ll be actively showcasing the courses, highlighting membership and visitor opportunities, and helping more people feel comfortable taking that next step onto the course.

“We’re also pleased to say that Fraserburgh Golf Club is coming on board as a Partner Club too, which is fantastic news. Our aim is to involve all local clubs so we’re not favouring any one club over another and instead working together to strengthen golf in our area for the long term.

‘Fair exchange with no money changing hands’

“This is a fair exchange with no money changing hands. It’s about being good for golf, supporting our clubs, and creating a better pathway from ‘starting golf’ to ‘playing golf’ regularly.

“One of the parts we are most excited about is launching a local Junior Golf Tour across the Partner Club courses. This will create real playing opportunities for youngsters from as young as four years old, right through to our more established junior players, with events designed to be fun, friendly and confidence-building. Think Flag events for newer golfers, 9-hole Stablefords as they progress, and Texas Scrambles to keep it social and team-based.

“We’re excited to get started with Rosehearty & Fraserburgh and hoping more local clubs will join the Partner Club programme soon, so we can grow this into something that benefits every club, every golfer, and the future of the game locally.”
