Set to be headquartered out of Aberdeen with events taking place across Aberdeenshire and Moray, it will also mark the introduction of brand new gravel-based event, Rally Scotland.

Developed in partnership with Motorsport UK, an initial three-year deal has been struck following funding agreements between the Scottish Government, Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council.

Hugh Chambers, the CEO of Motorsport UK said: “Bringing the FIA World Rally Championship back to the UK has been a priority for Motorsport UK, and Rally Scotland is the result of strong collaboration between national and local partners who share our ambition to deliver a world-class event.

“It represents an important moment for the sport in the UK – reconnecting the championship with our passionate rally community while creating new opportunities for competitors, volunteers and fans.”

Organisers say their aim is to establish Rally Scotland as an “international sporting event delivering significant economic and tourism benefits for the region”.

WRC Scotland date still to be confirmed

While the event is expected to take place in autumn 2027, an exact date is yet to be confirmed as the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) evaluate the full WRC calendar.

The rally will be based at Aberdeen’s P&J Live which will include an indoor service park, rally headquarters, event arena and conference and seminar space. Meanwhile, the dramatic landscapes and forest roads of the surrounding regions will pose an exciting challenge for some of the biggest names in motorsport.

David Richards, the chair of Motorsport UK, said that Scotland will provide a “a spectacular stage for the next chapter” of the WRC in the UK.

He said: “Rallying has always held a special place in the story of British motorsport and, for me personally, it has been a huge part of my life.

“Having experienced the World Rally Championship from inside a rally car, I know just how unique the atmosphere of a UK rally can be – the forests, the fans and the extraordinary community of volunteers and motor clubs who make these events so special.”
