'Like coming home' - Scotland cap rejoins former club and could face old Edinburgh teammates next weekend
Harlequins snap up internationally capped back on a free transfer after Edinburgh Rugby release
Scotland international centre James Lang has described re-signing with former club Harlequins as ‘like coming home’ following his Edinburgh release earlier this year.
The 31-year-old was invited to train with the London based outfit earlier this summer and clearly did enough to impress the decision makers at Twickenham Stoop, earning a one year contract. His could very well be up against his old teammates in the near future as Quins’ host Edinburgh in a pre-season friendly next Friday night, September 18.
Lang won six caps for Scotland between 2018 and 2021 during his first spell with the Gallagher PREM club. However, after moving to the Hive he dropped out of the international set-up and his five year stint with the capital club came to an end this year.

On rejoining the team where he began his senior rugby career, the Ashford native said: “Coming back to Harlequins feels like coming home. This club shaped me as a player and as a person, and being back out on the training pitches these last couple of weeks has reminded me exactly why.
“There is a new feel to the environment and an excitement within the squad of the levels of performance we can achieve this season. I can't wait to pull the shirt on again and run out at The Stoop alongside the boys.”
Harlequins finished ninth out of ten teams in last season’s Gallagher Prem with only Newcastle Red Bulls below them in the final table. Lang will hope he can be part of a revitalised side under head coach James Gilmore with their first match coming at home to Bath on Friday, September 25.
"James knows this club inside out,” said Gilmore. “It's been clear from the first day he walked back into the building how much he still loves being here. He's trained well over the last couple of weeks and slotted straight back in with the group. He brings composure, rugby IQ and real experience in midfield, and we're excited to have him back as part of the squad for 2026/27."
