Ulster have been handed a significant injury blow ahead of their trip to Scotstoun on Saturday to face Glasgow Warriors.

The Belfast side confirmed that Ireland international winger Robert Baloucoune will not be available for their second round URC fixture having sustained a concussion in their defeat to Edinburgh last weekend. Sean Everitt’s side ran out 34-29 winners at the Affidea Stadium on Friday night.

Baloucoune, 29, is one of the Belfast club’s star players having scored 195 points in 81 matches since debuting in 2018. The Enniskillen native has also impressed at Test level, scoring five tries in his nine senior caps for Ireland to date.

Also missing for Ulster will be fellow Ireland cap Michael Lowry who likewise sustained a concussion during the match against Edinburgh. The 28-year-old was replaced at half time in the opening fixture just eight minutes before Baloucoune was forced off.

Former Leinster and Ireland under 20 winger Aitzol Arenzana-King is another who is unavailable for the visitors this weekend with a knee injury. Meanwhile, Glasgow are expected to be without four of their Scotland internationals for the fixture.

Captain Kyle Steyn and prop Zander Fagerson are working their way back to fitness after picking up knocks during the Summer Test matches while the game will also come too soon for new signing Jamie Ritchie. However, all three are in line to be available for selection in the coming weeks.

Warriors are without lock Alex Samuel longer term after it was confirmed the 23-year-old would not return to action until after the November international fixtures at least. He sustained a knee injury during Scotland’s summer Test matches which saw him withdrawn from the line up to face South Africa.

Franco Smith’s side got off to a winning start in their 2026/27 URC season with an impressive away victory against Munster at Thomond Park last weekend. Jamie Dobie marked the occasion of his 100th appearance for the club with two tries on their way to a 26-20 victory with Nathan McBeth and George Horne also on the scoresheet.

This weekend’s match with Ulster at Scotstoun will be their first home game of the new campaign and is scheduled for a 5:30pm kick off on Saturday, October 3.
