Stephen Gallacher's in-form nephew secures first Scotland cap
In-form Bathgate player selected for European Boys’ Team Championship in Spain
In-form Oli Henderson, Stephen Gallacher’s nephew, has secured his first Scotland cap - and it will come in an event his uncle helped win 34 years ago.
The Bathgate teenager’s selection for next month’s European Boys’ Team Championship in Spain comes on the back of him playing some eye-catching golf.
Henderson, who plays off plus two, won the Stephen Gallacher Foundation Monmouthshire Masters at Monmouthshire Golf Club earlier this month with rounds of 68-71-74 for a three-over total. Maintaining his good play, the 18-year-old added the Bathgate Junior Championship last week.

Gallacher was in the Scottish side that won the European Boys’ Team Championship at Conwy in 1992, when he teamed up with Andrew Farmer, Hugh McKibbin, David Orr, Alan Reid and Gordon Sherry.
“We are so proud of Oli as a family,” said Gallacher. “He’s a dedicated hard worker. He’s on a great journey and I wish him and his five team-mates all the best.”
Henderson is among three Lothians players in the side heading to Montecastillo for an event being held on 7-11 July, the other being Aidan Lawson (Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society) and Eddie Jackson (Turnhouse).
Joining forces with them are recent Barrie Douglas Foundation Scottish Junior Masters winner Cole Stewart (Carnoustie Caledonia), Fraser Brown (Nairn) and Fraser Walters (Blairgowrie).
Stirling’s Erin Huskie, the Scottish Women’s champion, spearheads the side for the girls’ equivalent, which takes place at the same time at Zurich Golf & Country Club.
Her team-mates in Switzerland will be Carly McDonald (St Regulus Ladies), Hannah Ounap (Loudoun), Holly McKenzie (Murcar Links), Louisa Hamilton (Ponteland) and Melissa Keay (Ralston).
It will be a family affair, meanwhile, in the European Young Masters as Walters competes along with his younger sister Stella at El Saler in Valencia on 23-25 July.
In an event won by Lawson two years ago, the Saltire will also be flown on this occasion by McDonald and Fraser MacKenzie (Inverness).
