New Edinburgh connecting flight to incredible Mexican holiday destination takes off

A new connecting flight from Edinburgh to a top Mexican holiday destination has made its first flight.

Irish airline Aer Lingus’ first flight to Cancún, Mexico, took off on Monday. Connecting the UK to Mexico through Dublin, the three times weekly route will leave from Edinburgh and operate until April 29 - perfect for those looking to get some winter sun.

The route will also connect eight other UK airports - including Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, London Heathrow, Manchester, and Southampton.

Cancún has long been a popular destination with holidaymakers, making it a perfect addition to the airline’s long-haul portfolio. The appeal of Cancún goes beyond its beaches, with the region also home to the awe-inspiring archaeological sites of El Rey, Ichkabal, Coba, Kohunlich, El Meco, Chichén Itzá, and Tulum, which offer a fascinating glimpse into Mexico's rich heritage.

Beyond its rich culture and its crystal-clear waters, Cancún offers foodies a chance to savour the authentic flavours of Mexican cuisine.

From the smoky, charred richness of grilled meats to the region’s iconic zesty ceviche, Cancún is a haven for food lovers. Visitors can embark on a culinary adventure indulging in local delicacies like lobster pizza, queso de bola, crispy sweet marquesitas and freshly made guacamole.

Susanne Carberry, Aer Lingus chief customer officer, said: “Located on the Mexican Caribbean, Cancún is the ideal destination for those looking for an exciting winter escape. With its rich history, golden beaches and clear waters and research highlights, Cancún caters to the growing consumer demand for winter sun, while also offering a rich blend of history, culture, and cuisine.”

Carlos Trueba Coll, director of Cancún Airport said: “On behalf of everyone at Cancún International Airport, we would like to extend a warm welcome to Aer Lingus and thank you for choosing us as part of your destination network. We are confident that the addition of the Cancún–Dublin route will boost cultural and economic exchange between our regions. Welcome home!”
