When you think of perfect white sands and turquoise waves lapping the shore, Scotland may not be the first place that comes to mind.
But we have an almost endless supply of beautiful beaches – including many which could easily be mistaken for a spot in the Caribbean (although the water temperature should soon bring you back to your senses).
From island sands to city beaches, and coral bays to famous filming locations, the Scottish coastline really does have it all.
With the country currently in the middle of a heatwave, many of us are thinking about heading out to enjoy some sand and sea, so we thought we’d take a look at which beaches rank highest when it comes to visitors’ reviews - from foreign tourists to local daytrippers.
Here are the top 11 - according to travel website TripAdvisor.

9. West Sands, St Andrews
Famously the scene of the iconic running scene in the 1980 Oscar-winning film 'Chariots of Fire', West Sands in St Andrews offers miles of perfect coastline. One person who visited with their family said: "What a gorgeous beach. The beach is clean, lovely soft golden sand and it stretches for miles. A lovely beach to spend the day. I'll definitely go back." | Canva/Getty Images

10. Uig
Lying on the south western side of the glorious Isle of Lewis, Uig Beach is where the famous Lewis Chessmen, which currently reside in the National Museum of Scotland, were discovered. One couple said: "Wow, never seen such a vast area of white sand. The sea was out when we arrived so the beach was like an expanse of golden sands. It was beautiful. " | Canva/Getty Images

11. Elie
There are many stunning beaches in the East Neuk of Fife, but the best of the lot is probably the one in the village of Elie - named one of the best places to live in Scotland last year. One dog owner said: "Beautiful beach of soft golden sand. Kept spotlessly clean. Dog friendly and my pooch had a ball there. Fist time I've taken her there and it won't be the last." | Canva/Getty Images
