Under the Radar: Ellijai

Influenced by Billie Eilish, Phoebe Bridgers and The Cranberries, Ellijai is one to watch, write Olaf Furniss and Derick Mackinnon
We first discovered alt-pop artist Ellijai when we heard her play a live session on CamGlen Radio with new music champion Derek McCutcheon. A relative newcomer to the scene, with her debut release Floating in the Flood released in June last year followed by All of my Hours (which clocked-up over 10,000 streams on Spotify alone) in August, she’s a very promising prospect.
Influenced by artists such as Billie Eilish, Phoebe Bridgers and The Cranberries (she has a cover of the classic track Zombie out now), she has also secured support via Amazing Radio, Radio Wigwam and BBC Introducing on BBC Radio Scotland thanks to Phoebe Inglis-Holmes and Stephanie Cheape.
Released last month via Royale Stag Records, her latest original song is the powerful Bad Timing, which was written out of frustration with the world today, covering the climate crisis, the bizarre political landscape, and the dark side of social media. Next up is her own take on Christmas classic Last Christmas on 5 December. Visit https://ellijai.com/
