Under the Radar: Orla Noble

Orla Noble’s atmospheric debut album is already enjoying plenty of airplay, write Olaf Furniss and Derick Mackinnon
Following the release of her debut album, unfurl, Glasgow singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Orla Noble is emerging as one of Scotland’s most captivating new voices.
Blending folk-inspired storytelling with traditional Scottish influences, her new record explores deeply personal themes of identity, pain, love and renewal through intimate and atmospheric songwriting. Highlights include the beautiful singles hold me and see me free.
Released earlier this month, with a triumphant launch at The Caves in Edinburgh, unfurl has already earned significant airplay, with tracks featuring on BBC Radio 6 Music with support from Emily Pilbeam and Nick Grimshaw and airplay from Roddy Hart and Len Pennie via BBC Radio Scotland.
Engineered and mixed in Tobermory by Gordon Maclean, the album sees Noble perform almost every instrument herself, with contributions from UTR favourites Rhona Macfarlane and Hector Shaw as well as Rachel Wilson. She performs live at the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival at the end of July and at the Under Canvas Festival at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness on 1 August. See https://linktr.ee/orlanoble
