First held in 2003, the Download Festival takes place in Donington Park, in Leicestershire, each year - with the biggest names in rock playing to a rawcous audience.
It belatedly took the place of the much-loved Monsters of Rock Festival, last held in the same venue in 1996.
Over the years it has had a string of high profile headliners over the years, including the like of Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Slipknot, Metallica, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Def Leppard and Kiss.
Last year saw Guns N' Roses, Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit close the three days on the main stage.
The first lineup announcement for the 2027 event is set to be announced in the second half of October, with the festival taking place from June 9-13.
Here are 13 bands that could be topping the bill - from near-certs to longshots.

1. Blink-182
Download have been embracing the poppier side of rock in recent years (Busted in 2024 being a case in point) and few bands do that kind of thing better than Blink-182. Somewhat incredibly they have never played Download before - meaning they fit with the organisers' bid to attract new bands. If they were booked they would probably go straight to the headline slot. | Getty Images

2. Foo Fighters
Here's a fact that you need to double-check - remarkably Foo Fighters have never played Download. It's the perfect fit for them, they'd be likely to receive a hero's welcome and even Dave Grohl is on record as saying that an appearance is "long overdue". | Getty Images

3. Faith No More
Faith No More have announced that they'll be in Europe next year to headline the Rock For People festival in Czechia. They would be warmly welcomed back to Download, where they headlined during their last live comeback in 2009. | Getty Images

4. Evanescence
Evanescence last played Download in 2023 when, despite not headlining, they attracted an enormous crowd leading some to suggest that they deserved to top the bill next time. They have already announced some European tour dates next year and will be in Europe when Download is on, playing in Switzerland on the Friday - so would be availbale to close out the festival on the Sunday. | AFP via Getty Images
