Aberdeen crime: Police warn drivers over parking meter scam in Aberdeen city centre

Drivers have reported finding large sums of money taken from their account.

Police are urging motorists to be cautious after several reports of a fraud in Aberdeen city centre involving fake parking meter payments.

In a statement, officers revealed that in several locations across the city from January to February, QR codes have been posted on legitimate parking bays that send users to a parking payment website.

A small amount of money is taken for the parking but drivers then find large sums of money taken from their account later that day.

Detective Constable Michael Adam said: "I am urging motorists to be aware of this scam and double check the legitimacy of any website before you make any payment.

"Once fraudsters have your bank details, they can access the account and take large sums of money.
